Having Bad Breath can be very embarrassing, Have you ever been in a situation where you are speaking to someone and you get a whiff of their smelly breath? It is enough to make you take a step back, or even worse have you ever been on a date only to realise that partner you are with had dog breath?

One of the worse things about Bad Breath is that most of the time you won’t even realise that you have it and you will find that unless you have some very honest friends or partner then they won’t tell you about it and you will continue to suffer from it.

How is Bad Breath Caused?

There are various reasons that may cause someone to have Bad Breath but the main reason is that you have poor Oral Hygiene, You may or may not know but there is literally Millions of Bacteria lodging in your mouth and mainly on the back of your tongue.

These Bacteria break down the compounds of the food and dead cells left in your mouth which produces Volatile Sulphur Compounds, It’s these Sulphur Compounds which create the Bad Smell on your Breath.

Various other Causes of Bad Breath

Foods

The various different types of food that you eat may be the reason that you have smelly breath, Most of the Volatile Sulphur Compounds we talked about earlier are caused by the waste of the Bacteria as they produce protein.

Protein foods such as Fish and Meat are a great meal for these Bacteria and they love nothing more than to eat all the leftovers that reside in your mouth and on your Tongue, it is a good idea to brush your teeth after every meal.

Other foods like Garlic and Onions can also cause Bad Breath as these foods give of a pungent smell, as well as these, foods that have high acidity levels like Orange Juice and Tomato Juice can cause Bad Breath.

Medical Conditions

There is a list of Medical Conditions that can Cause Bad Breath, we have listed them below

Infection of the nose, lungs or windpipes

Repertory infection

Sinusitis

Periodontal disease (Gum Disease)

Diabetes

Dry Mouth

Dry Mouth is another reason that your Breath may not be that pleasant, Saliva in your mouth helps to remove the particles in your mouth that cause Bad Breath, Dry Mouth or Xerostomia as it is called can contribute to bad breath as not enough saliva is produced. If you have ever heard of the phrase “Morning Breath” then this is what is causing it. When you sleep the Salivary Gland produces very little saliva which causes the dry mouth

Smoking Tobacco

Smoking Tobacco can cause Bad Breath as it has a pungent smell to it and smokers are more likely to get Periodontal Disease which also causes Bad Breath

These are the main causes of Bad Breath, the chances are that you will be able to attribute your Bad Breath to one of these reasons and from there you can take steps to cure your Bad Breath.
