i think my dog’s stomach is inflamed..diet ideas?
sometimes my dog starts acting strange, like he’ll just stand still very still when he would usually sit, he might tremble or look sad. and then sometimes during this time he’ll yelp when we pick him up, but i’ll check his body for injuries and he’s fine. also, he’ll want to sleep in strange positions and in strange areas (on my face, on the ledge of the couch). also, his breath smells bad when he acts like this.
so i’m thinking this means his stomach hurts though i’m not sure why this causes all the symptoms. last time this happened, we took him to the vet and they said his stomach was inflamed, i’m wondering if there is something i can do to make him feel better? some sort of medicine or a better diet to follow. right now he eats mostly his dry food with occasional treats and canned food.
this happens every few months and i feel terrible for him. i will take him to the vet if he’s like this tomorrow but i can’t afford $400 visits very often.
thanks!

He might have liver or kidney disease instead of a stomach problem. You do need to take him to a vet. Ask what causes this condition and what you can do to prevent it? Are there certain foods he should avoid? Your dog is in pain. Be sure to tell the vet about the past episodes and all the symptoms, including the bad breath, yelping when picked up and trembling.
I strongly urge you to go to the vet. This could be life threatening. For more information, you could try one of the many Ask a Vet websites.
You will absolutely need to take him to the vets to find out the cause of the problem. As for diet, while he is actually sick you should just give him bland foods. When my dog is sick I give her steamed chicken pieces and some rice. It’s soft and gentle on the stomach and won’t aggravate it more. Good luck!
I would get a blood test done at the vet. Maybe try feeding him a natural diet for a couple of weeks- cooked white rice mixed with mince, raw chicken wings or necks, a lamb shank occassionally…if he seems a lot better maybe he’s intolerant to corn, or something else in the processed food you feed him.
