Question about penicillin injection for strep throat?
I don’t have specifics on exactly the name of the injection, but I went to the doctor approx. 32 hours ago, so well over 24 hours, where I tested positive for strep. They gave the a “penicillin” shot in my bum so that I wouldn’t have to take any antibiotic pills, and sent me home with pain pills and said I should be fit to go to work in 2 days, which is now tomorrow. Problem? I do not feel ANY better whatsoever as of yet. In fact I feel worse because my butt hurts SO f-ing bad from that shot, I can’t even sleep on that side. It is swollen and slightly bruised, and when I touch it I can feel a ball of whatever is swollen up in there.
This might sound crazy but could the injection liquid just be sitting there, not absorbing into me and helping me? Because my throat is JUST as painful, with JUST as many if not a few more white pus pockets on the tonsils. I’m very frustrated because I don’t see how I will be able to work tomorrow like this. I tried calling the doc office today and they just said to “wait it out for a few days” or come in and pay for ANOTHER visit.
So I guess I am also wondering can it take longer than 24 hours before you see an improvement from the penicillin shot? Thanks as I am practically having to spit in a cup because of my inability to swallow.

It can take some time for symptoms to resolve. The pain you’re experiencing at the injection site is normal.
It might be be because you are allergic to penicillin Or it just takes time
Did they actually bother to do a culture of your throat?
You might not really have strep throat. It could be a viral infection, so the antibiotic can’t do anything.
Usually, penicillin V is given orally (by mouth) two to three times a day for 10 days. Some healthcare providers prefer to use ampicillin or amoxicillin instead of penicillin. Some studies show that amoxicillin given just once a day may work as well as penicillin V given more often. A slight disadvantage of these drugs compared to penicillin is that they are more likely to cause an antibiotic-related rash or diarrhea.
Penicillin allergy
For patients who are allergic to penicillin, the class of drugs that has been traditionally used are the erythromycins (macrolides); now there are newer, related antibiotics in this class that have been used successfully.
Good luck.
Yo ureally neeed to go to the dr. and get tested for mono (viral) and retested for strep(bacterial).
