I have this ongoing mucus cough that won’t go away. Every few days I get a super sore throat with super swollen tonsils and it will last a few days and go away but soon will come back. I went to the doctor who prescribed mucinex but it didn’t do anything but give me dry mouth (which made my throat worse) because I didn’t want to take antibiotics yet. i went back to a different doctor and he looked in my nose and said a have nasal inflammation and instead of having a runny nose IT’s draining down my throat into my lungs (disgusting) which causes me to start hacking up a lung to get it back out and the coughing has caused my throat symptoms. He said it must be allergies and prescribed antihistamines and anti coughing pills (which both causes drowsiness and impairment of whatever) and Afrin and flonase. Is this really what I need? Do I have allergies to something or could I be sick? I would rather not take the antihistamine or coughing medication because I have a two year old and my husband is deployed and i can’t be dosing off on the couch all day. Please Help
