Last night when I was dozing off to sleep I’d suddenly wake up like I hadn’t been breathing for a few seconds. Now, I understand this could be sleep apnea, but it does NOT happen very often-actually this is the first time it’s happened in probably more than 6 months. It gave me anxiety so repeatedly I’d try to fall asleep and the same thing would happen. It could be mild sleep apnea I guess, but I’m thinking it could also just be anxiety. I’ve been under a lot of stress lately and just recently have completely cut out caffeine, changed my diet (better), and started working out. On top of that I’m 5 states away from my family for the next 4 months and it’s really getting to me.

I do have larger than normal tonsils that have caused me throat problems (sickness) in the past but my doctor never recommended taking them out because it hasn’t happened in about 1.5 years.
Tonsils causing obstructive sleep apnea or just anxiety?
I know I need to see a doctor, but anyone have the same issue?
Well I don’t snore, anymore. I used to a little bit now and then but not so much anymore.

I am pretty sure it’s anxiety because my boyfriend tells me he doesn’t notice any odd behavior while I’m sleeping. I’ll probably go to the doctor anyway just to make sure.

Thanks for all your help!!

I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. I don’t fit the typical description of someone who has it: I’m a healthy weight, and a young female.
It’s a mild case, but enough that it completely messes with my sleep and makes me exhausted.
When I was 6, my tonsils were removed. My mom made the comment that the doctor told her that they were abnormally large.
Is it possible that something in my anatomy from the tonsils that long ago could be causing the apnea (since they were apparently so large)?

I took my daughter to the doctors the other day regarding her excessive snoring as it was so bad I could hear her while I was downstairs with the tv on. There has also been periods where she seems to be struggling to breathe and we assumed this was because she has extremely large tonsils. She advised this could be sleep apnea and was referring her to the hospital to get her tonsils and adenoids taken out. Has anyone else been through this? My daughter is 7yrs old and fit and healthy otherwise.

It has been 6 days now and she is still so uncomfortable from her surgery. The doctor said he opened her airway another 50% and that her adnoids were as big as her “kissing tonsils!” I will say, I have already noticed she sleeps with her mouth closed and is SO silent! I really am hoping our lives will begin to have some normalcy we have had very little sleep in 4 years. She has always hated to go to sleep, lay horizontal and been sick with every normal child sickness, but just to the MAX. For example she has had the 12 colds a year, 6 ear infections a year…etc…
